This story is born with a trip, as it happens with so many things. More than half a century has passed since the day a Swedish traveler arrived in Santa Lucia, in the southeast of Gran Canaria.
Saint Lucia celebrated that day the festivities of Our Lady of Light. A party born of an ancient tradition, which coincidentally received the protagonist of our story.
The traveler was by surprise with a town whose parties transported him, at a jump, to the Swedish city of Luléa.
Santa Lucia, where else, in what other place could she have found a mirror of her Lucía Sueca.
That was the beginning, from which would emerge the initiative of Mr. Vicente Sánchez Araña, which would promote the creation of the Reina de la Luz Patronage together with a group of Gran Canaria citizens. A connecting door between 2 remote places, but then close. They are responsible for the success of a consolidated tradition: the visit of the Lucía Sueca to our island, year after year.
An annual visit that announces the beginning of Christmas.
